Written by Lindsay Torres on October 29, 2010 – 3:06 pmIt’s enrollment time again for benefits such as health insurance and the 2011 Flexible Spending Account (FSA). The rules on reimbursement from these accounts are changing due to the health care reform law, so keep these rules in mind when signing up.
Biggest Change to FSA Plans are Over the Counter Medications
First, if you are not already aware of the benefits of a Flexible Spending Account, an FSA fund is money that is put aside out of each paycheck, using pre-tax dollars, as a type of “savings” account for certain medical expenses not reimbursed by health insurance coverage.

Some over-the-counter products will continue to be eligible, such as acne creams (Clearasil, OXY), wound cleansers (Betadine), contraceptives and family planning products (condoms, pregnancy tests), denture adhesives (PoliGrip), diabetes testing materials (strips, glucose products), diagnostic products such as thermometers or blood pressure monitors, eye care including reading glasses, and smoking deterrants (Nicoderm, Nicorette).
However some over the counter medications previously eligible for reimbursement will no longer be considered qualified as of January 1, 2011 unless a doctor writes a note stating that the product is medically necessary. These

We love our pets and we want what is best for them and it is therefore really important that we know what to do or not to do.
The first things is that you need to make sure that you’re pet is given the proper food and other nutritional products that the specific breed might require. Even though we all know how important proper food is to a body (dog, cat, bird or human) we’re often going for quick solutions rather than the right solutions and the effect shows in all the statistics.
Eating poor nutrition and not getting the right amount of minerals, vitamins and proteins will have a slow but ever growing negative effect on any living being. The fastest and easiest solution to poor pet nutrition is to go get an appointment with your VET and have them recommend you on what to do. You’ll of cause need to follow their advice in order for it to work.

Health Insurance State Reforms
Written by Lindsay Torres on October 28, 2010 – 9:27 amConnecticut health insurance : The Department of Insurance has submitted its package of proposed legislation for 2011 providing a clear indication of the Department’s current priorities. The package would have to be approved (and/or amended) by the next Administration before any proposed legislation is submitted to the legislature in January. Many of the proposals are re-introductions of bills considered in past years that failed to survive the process. However, some new proposals warrant close review:
- PPACA authority: This language would adopt PPACA and future changes in their entirety. Once rules are finalized, specific provisions can be drafted in the future.
- AAC payment/assessment methodology by insurers: Revises the methodology governing the assessment of payments made by domestic insurers. This revision would eliminate an existing inequity in assessments for insurers vs health care centers. The DOI would take the premium data directly from the Annual National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) statutory blanks which would be retrieved electronically. <
