Written by Lindsay Torres on June 21, 2010 – 8:04 amIf you find yourself without health insurance coverage because of a job loss or because your employer is trying to save money by cancelling your group plan, you can find inexpensive health insurance online. Recession-proof Brits happier than five years’ ago
Written by Lindsay Torres on June 17, 2010 – 12:02 pmAviva is claiming that almost two thirds (63%) of Britons feel happier now than five years’ ago, and that seven out of 10 are actually content with their current situation.
Research in the form of the Aviva Feel-Good Insight Study also indicates that relationships, security and health hold the most sway with regard to a sense of wellbeing.
According to the insurer, the most commonly cited “happiness factors” are: enough income to pay for essentials (85%); good health (85%); stable and secure family life (81%); getting married or meeting a soul mate (73%) and spending an anniversary with a partner (58%).
However, 35% of those questioned felt undervalued or unappreciated in life and to remedy this, Aviva has launched its “Tell Us Your Story” campaign, which invites the public to recognise those who have made a positive impact on their lives or in the community, over the past year.
The study has also provided a “contentment” map of the UK’s 10 largest cities.
The residents of Edinburgh are the happiest, while Londoners are the least likely to be found smiling and whistling a tune.
In between, and in descending order, come Liverpool, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow, Leicester, Birmingham, Sheffield and Leeds.
Aviva marketing director, Gary Price, comments: “It is interesting to see that, despite the recession, the last five years have allowed many to reassess what is truly important to them in life.”

This Week in Health Care Reform
Written by Lindsay Torres on June 12, 2010 – 4:45 pmPrimary elections were held in 11 states this week as lawmakers returned to Washington, D.C., to face a growing list of unfinished legislative business including a jobs bill and environmental issues stemming from the Gulf crisis. Meanwhile, President Barack Obama launched a public relations campaign to combat skepticism around his new health insurance reform legislation and to promote the early implementation of certain provisions of the law.
Health Care Reform Health Care Reform Debate Alive and Well: Democrats continue to sell their plan for health care reform to Americans in the face of mixed public opinion, simultaneously battling Republicans pushing for its repeal.
Congressional lawmakers address concerns about the new health care reform legislation, particularly among senior citizens , who make up a disproportionate share of voters in midterm elections. Democrats and the administration are eager to publicize certain provisions of the bill, like retaining young adults on their parents’ plans until age 26, as a way to gain support and to turn voters away from Republicans who called for its repeal. <
